Sunny & Warm San Diego

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

My day started at 3:30 AM EST and it is now 8:00 PM PT (11:00 PM EST).  Boy am I tired.  The flight from Columbus to San Diego was uneventful and I got a lot of knitting done.  For those of you that don’t know, I am in San Diego to buy yarn for the spring and summer.  What FUN!  I can’t wait to see all the new yarns and fashions for spring.  More later, I am off to bed.

Megan’s Design

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

How does she do it?? Megan somehow finds the time to knit great projects. She, too, is making up her own sweater pattern (based on one from Knitting Pure and Simple) using Plymouth Tweed in “Plum“. It is beautiful - we can’t wait to see the finished garment!

Barb’s Cardigan

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

The ever-energetic Barb has started the “Flutter Sleeve Cardigan” found in the Spring 2008 Interweave Knits Magazine. She has chosen a gorgeous deep red in Silky Wool.  She has wanted to do a project in this yarn forever, and is loving it so far. Her fingers have been flying - she has already completed the back, and is doing both sides of the front simultaneously! You go girl!!

Stephanie’s Sweater

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Our ultra-creative Stephanie is working on a sweater of her own design! Using Barbara Walker’s book “Knitting from the Top Down“, she is knitting a raglan sleeve sweater using Ultra Alpaca in “Fig“. She reports that she LOVES working with Ultra Alpaca - the alpaca makes it soft while the wool gives it structure. It also comes in amazing colorways, and is good value. It knits 5 stitches to the inch, which means you can wear the sweater indoors without sweating to death! Check back to see her progress.

Happy 2009 !!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Hello All! Everyone at Knitters Mercantile wishes you a happy, healthy, and creative 2009!

Today the snow - and the temperature -  is rapidly falling.  If you need something to brighten your day, stop by the store and check out our newest yarn from Prism Arts, Inc. With a name like Wild Stuff,  you know you’re in for something a little different. Made up of over 30 different yarns that are hand tied end to end, this yarn makes one-of-a-kind garments for sure! Wild Stuff has a heavy amount of metallic, eyelash, and other “funky” yarns to show your wild side. For a little more tame approach, try Cool Stuff. Also using multiple strands tied end-to-end, it has less of the funky stuff — but is still just as fabulous! We have the pattern books that each detail 5 projects specifically designed to make perfect use of these fabulous yarns. Can’t make it into the shop ? Check out this yarn on our web page.
